Sani reminds Nigerians, Edu and Shehu would have pretended nothing happened

Both Betta Edu and Halima Shehu would have continued in office as if nothing happened if they had served under former President Muhammadu Buhari who ran the country aground through sheer irresponsibility and callousness, Shehu Sani has reminded fellow citizens.

Femi Adesina, who was Buhari’s spokesman in Aso Rock, is still pushing it down the throats of reasonable folks, including Sani the conscience of the North, that Buhari is a saint who performed well in the Villa, despite the vast majority of people North and South knowing and saying that Buhari failed spectacularly.

Sani is also not buying Adesina’s gaslighting in his new book Working with Buhari 2015-2023 launched yesterday – a false, laughable hagiography on Buhari – which tries to rewrite Nigeria’s worst ever President as the best thing to happen to the country, after Adesina failed in that narrative throughout his eight-year tenure in the Villa.

Sani, former Senator representing Kaduna Central, said Edu, suspended Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Minister; and Shehu, suspended National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) Chief Executive Officer, would have survived with Buhari keeping mum, as usual.

President Bola Tinubu earlier this month suspended Shehu over alleged mismanagement of N37 billion of a total N44 billion meant to tackle poverty.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has tracked and frozen N30 billion of the N44 billion suspiciously moved from the accounts of  NSIPA by its officials into private and corporate accounts linked to those serving as fronts.

Tinubu also later suspended Edu for directing the payment of N585 million meant for distribution to poor folk in four states into a private account.

EFCC interrogates Edu, Shehu

Since their suspension, Edu and Shehu both have been interrogated by the EFCC.

“Let me tell you, Tinubu is not Buhari. In 2011, lives were lost due to people’s devotion and optimism for Buhari, but he didn’t do as expected. His significant error lies in not thoroughly scrutinising the individuals he appointed to positions, which does not align with effective leadership,” Sani argued on Trust Radio based in Abuja.

“95 per cent of his [Buhari’s] executive council served for eight years, seemingly as if they were the only individuals known to him nationwide. He didn’t find replacements, particularly when it became evident that they did not meet expectations.”

It took Buhari six months to appoint Ministers after he assumed office in 2015.

Sani described as unfortunate the administration of Buhari, who had criticised the past government for corruption, but surrounded himself with those enmeshed in corruption allegations.

“During his presidency, when you reported misconduct, he would just assure you of a proper investigation, but from there, nothing would come out of it.

“But look at what Tinubu did in suspending Betta Edu despite all her contributions to his politics as APC women’s leader before the election. This demonstrates his willingness to take action against wrongdoing.”
