Crystal Palace beat Premier League champions, Liverpool to win the Community Shield for the first time on penalties after a 2-2 draw on Sunday.
The Eagles twice came from behind to stun a new-look Liverpool at the Wembley Stadium.
Hugo Ekitike opened the scoring for the Reds as early as the 4th minute but Crystal Palace equalized through Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 17th minute.
Liverpool went ahead once again through Jeremie Frimpong, but Ismaila Sarr levelled the score in the second half and ensured the game ended in a draw.
During penalties, Mohamed Salah blazed over from the spot, while Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott were denied by an inspired Dean Henderson as Palace won the error-strewn shootout 3-2.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the encounter, Liverpool head coach, Arne Slot, said his team’s attack is better than it was last season.
The Dutch tactician, however, admitted that there is a lot of work to be done at the back.
Slot said: “I have mixed feelings, if you look at our attacking play it looks better than last season [against Crustal Palace]. On the other hand we conceded two goals, we need to be better defensively”.
