Pundit and former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane, has admitted that Arsenal can challenge for the English Premier League (EPL) title this season.

He made this known recently while analysing the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Manchester City last Sunday.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side at the Emirates, but Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench to level the scoreline.

The result leaves the north London club five points off Liverpool, who have won all their five league fixtures so far.

While analysing the encounter, Keane said he has always doubted Arsenal’s ability to contest for the EPL trophy.

He, however, added that Mikel Arteta’s men are now more equipped to challenge for the title.

He also suggested that they will be the nearest rivals to Liverpool in the Premier League title race this season.

Keane said: “Over the last few years, every time I’ve seen Man City and Arsenal in terms of winning the league title, I’ve never felt Arsenal had enough.

“[They never] had enough strength in depth, they obviously lacked that striker, but I look at Arsenal’s group of players now and I think they have the players capable of winning the Premier League.

“If you’re looking at both squads [Man City and Arsenal], you’re thinking Arsenal are probably going to be the nearest rivals to Liverpool [for the Premier League title].”
