Madueke is expected to be sidelined for around two months after picking up a knee injury during the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

“It looks like Noni is going to be out for a few weeks, but we don’t really know yet, we will have to scan him next week again,” Arteta said on Tuesday.

“He felt something at the beginning of the match and tried to carry on but it was too sore, so let’s see.”

Asked to confirm whether Madueke will be out for weeks rather than months, he replied: “We hope so. Like I said, we need to scan him again to see the extent of the injury but it doesn’t look too bad.”

Meanwhile, after Hincapié debuted for Arsenal as a late substitute in the Champions League win over Athletic Club last week, many expected him to make his first start for the club against Port Vale.

But Arteta has revealed that the Ecuadorian international suffered a groin injury and won’t be available.

He said, “There’s been a change of load and he didn’t really have a pre-season after the injury.

“We’ll have to see in the next week or so how he is. I think a short time [out].”
