Nesiama to chair NOC Technical Committee, oversee Athletes preparations for Games

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has approved the appointment of retired Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama as chairman of its technical committee.
NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel stated that the organisation is relying on Commodore Nesiama’s extensive experience and contributions to the Olympic movement to revamp Nigeria’s sports.
As an internationally recognised World Athletics and Confederation of Africa Athletics technical official, Commodore Nesiama will assume the role with immediate effect.
Speaking on the new development Commodore Nesiama, a former technical director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria stated: “Our focus will be to carry out engagements with the federations and other stakeholders in order to properly understand and have an alignment between the NSC strategic performance and the NOC operational performance strategies and pathways.
“This would require a workshop/clinic where the Podium Performance Team and the Federations Technical Departments would work together to forge an understanding. My commission would be that of facilitating cohesion in the planning and execution of these programmes”
Other members of the 16 member technical committee are; Tunde Kazeem, Ebenezer Morakinyo, Kwekwu Tandoh, Samuel Jackson, Isiaku Yusuf Gontor, Daniel Ademola, Mohammed Isa, Amos Iliya, Sunday Gullong, Babs Ogunade, Christopher Amkpila, Kalu Chijioke Erem, Lt Col. G. Bello and Austine Odijie who is the secretary of the committee
The committee’s terms of reference comprise; reviewing sporting federations seeking NOC recognition, providing recommendations to the executive committee and NOC board, and collaborating with the Sports Ministry through the NOC to monitor Nigerian athletes in camp preparing for Africa, Commonwealth, and Olympic Games.
The committee will also develop and implement seminars, workshops, and training programs, support sporting federations in drafting their statutes/constitutions, create a code of conduct for athletes, and execute tasks assigned by the executive committee to foster sports development.
