Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has predicted that Spain will qualify for the final of the 2026 World Cup, or at the very least go very far in the tournament.

He made this known while speaking after La Roja narrowly defeated his team 1-0 in the Round of 16.

With the game heading towards extra time, Spain substitute Mikel Merino came off the bench to grab a late winner.

Reacting to the loss after the encounter, Ronaldo said he and his teammates gave their best and that, despite their exit, they put in a good “performance”.

He said: “We played a good game, the performance was well done.

“We could have done better but Spain are among the best; they will get to the final or close.”

Spain, after the hard-fought victory, will now face Belgium in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
