Rivers Assembly also asked Gov Fubara to submit the names of commissioners not screened by the Amaewhule-led Assembly

The Rivers State House of Assembly has directed the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.), to appear before it within 48 hours.
The summon according to the Rivers’ lawmakers is to avail the state electoral body boss the opportunity to explain the rationale behind the conduct of the 2024 local government election.
Speaking during Wednesday’s plenary, the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, warned that failure of the RSIEC Chairman to comply with the directive will result in the issuance of a arrest warrant against him.
Apart from this, the legislators also resolved to formally request Governor Siminalayi Fubara to submit the names of all commissioners who were not screened by the Amaewhule-led Assembly.

RSIEC during a stakeholders’ meeting at its headquarters on Aba Road, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, scheduled a fresh local government council elections in the state for August 9, 2025.
Justice Enebeli while announcing the date, also unveiled the 2025 local government elections timetable and guidelines.
Addressing stakeholders, he reaffirmed his commison’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and impartial election, urging political parties to adhere to the rules.
Prior to these developments, the Supreme Court had sacked the 23 chairmen elected in the October 5, 2024 LG election, citing a violation of Section 150 of the Electoral Act.
