Police confirm release of abducted Benue university students

Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of the three female students who were abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi (JOSTUM).
The students were kidnapped on February 25, 2025, while returning from a night study session on campus. Their release was announced on Thursday in a news flash shared by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on X.
“Benue state police command confirms the release of the three abducted students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi (JOSTUM),” the post read.

In response to the abduction, the university management earlier ordered a one-week mid-semester break to address security concerns on campus. This was detailed in an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” issued a day after the incident and signed by the Registrar, Dr. John David.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, earlier called for urgent action to ensure the students’ safe return.
Authorities have yet to disclose details surrounding their release.
