Nigerian author and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has said it would be unwise for ace singer and record label owner, Davido to take the advice of Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka over the controversial video he posted on his Twitter handle recently.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the Afrobeats singer posted a short video of his signee, Logos Olori’s new single ‘Jaye Lo’ on social media.

The clip which captured the moment some people were praying and dancing in front of a mosque later attracted wide criticism from many Nigerians, majority of whom are Muslims.

Many of these netizens called on Davido to take down what they considered an offensive video and tender an apology for disrespecting Muslims.

Despite taking down the video, the Muslim community seems not to be appeased and insisted on a public apology from the singer.

However, literary icon, Wole Soyinka, in a statement on Tuesday, waded into the matter, urging Davido not to apologise despite the outcry, saying that former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El Rufai made derogatory comments against Christians in the past but was never asked to apologise.

Reacting to the development via his Instagram page on Wednesday, Reno Omokri, who was a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan,

advised the ‘Electricity’ crooner not to take counsel from “an atheist like Professor Wole Soyinka”.

He wrote, “It would be very unwise for Davido to take the counsel of an atheist like Professor Wole Soyinka, telling him he owes no apology to Muslims, over the video for the song Jaye Lo. This is a man who does not believe in God. How can he then know how people who believe in God feel?”

Omokri added: “Deleting the offending video is the first step, for which I commend Davido. Apologising will put the matter to an end and assuage the hurt feelings of Muslims.”
