Gbemisola, elder sister of musician Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, alias Portable, has cried out that the controversial artiste is acting under a spiritual spell cast on him by a member of their family.
She made the claim following Portable’s ongoing battles with Ogun government which escalated on February 7 when Abeokuta condemned his “rascality” in his reaction to officials of Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, (OGPDPA) at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ota.
Gbemisola in her reaction to a viral video circulating on X, apologised for Portable’s actions, alleging that a family member is spiritually influencing him.
She said: “People of Nigeria, I greet you all. I’m Portable’s eldest sister, the first child of his mother. We are just three that our mother gave birth to.
“Portable has never [stolen] before. I have never come out like this to speak, and he hasn’t even posted me despite being his sister. But he is the only one taking care of the family. If not for him, I would have died during my sickness.
“One of our family members, Akeem, is the one casting [a] spell on Portable, he is the one spiritually influencing Portable to misbehave and offend Nigerians.”
The state government last Thursday arraigned Portable, who is currently at large, along with nine of his associates at an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court for assaulting OGPDPA officials.
Portable, speaking from his hide-out, pleaded with the government to release his associates from detention, claiming he is being “set-up by some certain individuals.”
He challenged the officials to provide video evidence of the alleged assault, and warned that he may take his own life following his overwhelming frustration caused by the incident.
The government alleged that Portable unlawfully restricted, obstructed, and assaulted OGPDPA officials Ramon Lateef, Akinpelumi Oyero, and Abidemi Onabanjo while they were performing their lawful duty.
His arrested nine associates include Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Fatimo Muhammed, 26; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Samuel Adeleke, 28.
They were arraigned for allegedly assaulting the officials and the charges include armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and intent to kill.
The court set their bail at N5 million each.
Abiodun knocks Portable for being a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal”
A statement Governor Dapo Abiodun issued through his Information and Strategy Adviser Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who habitually assaults government officials without provocation.
The statement insisted that the “indecent act” would be addressed according to the law, describing Portable’s actions as “shameful and intolerable” to locals and the government, given the “chaos and fear” he incites.
“We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of the hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, on Wednesday, in the Iyana-Ilogbo area of the State where his bar is located,” the statement said.
“The way in which Portable and some miscreants he employed in the dastardly act attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but a confirmation of the erosion of Omoluabi ethos in those individuals and indeed a great disgrace to the state.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun totally condemned this primitive and indecent act and reiterated his avowed commitment to a just and egalitarian society as he is ready to make any individual flouting the extant law of the land face the full wrath of the law irrespective of social status and influence.”
