A twitter poll on who performed better in the Edo Governorship debate, puts the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Godwin Obaseki, far ahead of his challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, Pastor Osagei Ize-Iyamu.

The poll was conducted by a public policy expert, Dr Joe Abah, on his twitter timeline.

The debate, aired on Channels Television at 7pm on Sunday, September 13, was moderated by Seun Okinbaloye. The poll then came up immediately after the debate ended at 8:00.

At the time of filing this report, 19, 092 people have voted in the poll which would end by Monday, September 14, at 8:00 pm.

The result of the poll shows that Obaseki has a lead of 70.5 per cent, while Ize-Iyamu trailed behind by 29.5 per cent.

On the Channels Television twitter handle, the comment section was divided with varied responses on who did better in the debate.

A twitter user, @samsonosagie said: “Obaseki failed woefully. He could not justify the wasteful investment in Sobe farms, defend his three credits without English and mathematics. His was all rhetoric and baseless statistics. His government has made no impact on Edo people.”

@Piuxzk differed: “In the debate, Ize-Iyamu didn’t point out what he can do to make the govt better if elected, instead he was busy criticizing Obaseki. That was how Buhari also criticized Jonathan’s government then so we could vote him in and now we know better. Ize-Iyamu has nothing to offer.”

@M_abdu1rahman said: “The actual winning will be on the 19th when Ize-Iyamu is returned as the next elected Governor of Edo State. I watched the debate and whoever advised Obaseki to attend the debate caused him this election besides his obvious abysmal failure in the last four years. E go shock una!”

@DavidBumaye said Obaseki was definitely the winner of the debate: “Ize-Iyamu was just focused on attacking Obaseki’s policies and couldn’t even state his own policies which he wanted to bring on board,” he said.
