Police, thugs clash at Niger Assembly complex

Some policemen attached to the Niger State House of Assembly (NSHA), on Thursday exchanged blows with suspected political thugs who came from local government areas to witness the screening of commissioner nominees.
The fight resulted to dragging one of the officers severally on the floor.

Two of the thugs apparently tired of standing and/or out of exhaustion decided to seat on the big airconditioner inside the Assembly chamber, an action that did not go down well with the security men who asked them to come down.
All entreaties by by-standers and others inside the chamber pleading that the thugs should heed the security order as their defiance was already creating distractions from the day’s proceedings fell on deaf ears.

For daring security warnings, one of the regular policemen headed towards the thugs but unfortunately got more than what he anticipated as the thugs pounced on him, giving him thorough beating before help came his way.
The police officer had forced down the thug but uknown to him, the thug’s friends were on hand and therefore helped in pummeling the policeman when he demanded that the thugs should leave the chambers but instead they started exchanging insults which eventually snowballed into a full blown exchange of fisticuffs.
Timely intervention of a Mobile police officer saved the regular police officer.
The Mopol had to spray a substance into the eyes of the most daring thug, which demobilized him and also tear-gassed crowd that already gathered to witness the fight.
While the already battered regular police officer who was dragged to the ground for three consecutive times was helped to clean up bruises by some legislative staff, the prime suspect in the attacks whose names could not be ascertained as at the time of this report was led outside the Assembly complex premises in handcuffs.
