Police added that the money collected by the officers has been fully recovered and returned to the victim.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of officers fingered in the alleged extortion of a furniture maker in the state.
This was disclosed on Monday in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu.
Earlier, a social media influencer shared a video clip in which she alleged that some police officers extorted money from an Edo State based furniture maker.

According to her, the officers attacked the Oba Market Area police division, illegally searched the young man and later told him to pay one million naira.
She added that upon noticing that he didn’t have such an amount, the officers decided to collect the sum of N300,000 from him.
While updating the public on the saga, police said, “Officers involved have been promptly identified, the money has been fully recovered and returned to the victim, while the said officers have been detained and are to face disciplinary procedures in accordance with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The PPRO further stated that “stern administrative measures have been taken against the Oba Market Area Command to ensure professionalism, discipline, and respect for the rights of citizens in the discharge of their duties.”
