The Nigeria Police Force has explained why Afro-Pop singer Afunso Ridwan Abiola, popularly known as Rolex Dee, was arrested and detained, stating that he allegedly defamed and cyberbullied Ibadan-based artist Taiwo Akande Adebisi, also known as Taye Currency.

This was made known in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Oyo State Police Command.

According to the police, the allegations were “unverified reports capable of misleading the public”. They explained that operatives tracked Rolex Dee to Lagos after receiving a petition from Taye Currency.

Rolex Dee was accused of defamation of character, cyberbullying, and threats to life “across multiple social media platforms” after his interview on Agbaletu gained traction online.

“The suspect was alleged to have made defamatory utterances during a public programme known as Agbaletu, which subsequently gained widespread circulation online, thereby aggravating the impact of the alleged misconduct,” the police stated.
