POEMS: Inmates of time

-

By Victor Uzodinma Chukwuma

37. My Love

I heard a sweet song, saw a figure

Come through the bend,

An elegant Charioteer

In a lonely lane.

Charioteer of peace and love,

I have longed for you,

The spots I see are leopards,

The claws are they yours?

Which is your face

In this kaleidoscope?

My searching eyes sag,

My xerophytic soul wilts.

Come on

With the beats of the heart

Charioteer of peace and love,

If you are my Love.

38. Success far apart

I am going again to the alter,

Through the evasive bush path,

The carnivorous mountains

That eat human flesh.

I am going again God

Let fruition grease my charred hands

And kiss out this dripping agony.

My seasonal lantern wipes,

Their worshiping eyes cry

Before fate lottery stand.

Let me not be Cane I plead,

Bloodshot eyes dwell in my socket

In season anguish lacerates my tendons.

Now the summoning gong is clinking,

Let in this emerging shore,

My soul anchor.
