POEM: Inmates of Time

-

By Victor Uzodinma Chukwuma

1. Mystic Sister (For Ifeanyi Okonmah)

Like a gentle breeze,

Thou has youth and age,

That is pulsating.

Like a great divide,

Thou has the difference,

That is clear.

Like a morning rose,

Thou has freshness,

That is soothing.

Like a jar of honey,

Thou has sweetness,

That won’t go sour.

Like my soul,

Thou has a mystery,

That is a beauty.

Thou art the salt of the Earth.

2. Oneness, My Heart’s Lane

There is only one way

To heaven.

One through my heart,

And one through your heart

Warm and gay,

It stretches.

Through Golden pines,

Up the hill and down.

Up, up it goes,

Crossing rivers.

Deep jungles it passes,

Till the lord’s door.

Let’s take it,

And feel one.

One through my heart,

Let it pass through your heart.

For the Lord wants a twosome,

Early tomorrow morning.
