Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has expressed concern over the recent hike in petrol prices, questioning the impact of the Dangote Refinery on fuel costs.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Sani said, “The expectation was that Dangote Refinery will crash the price of petrol; the news that it’s increasing is baffling.”

On Friday, Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced an increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at its loading gantry. Marketers purchasing between 2 million to 4.99 million litres will now pay N955 per litre, while those buying 5 million litres or more will pay N950 per litre.
This represents a 6.17% rise from the previous price of N899.50 per litre set in December. As a result, the retail price of petrol across the country has surged to between N1,030 and N1,050 per litre.
The development has sparked public debate, with many Nigerians expressing disappointment over the rising cost of fuel.
