The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a change in venue for its Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting after armed policemen from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command blocked access to its National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja on Monday.
Originally scheduled to hold at 10 a.m. at the party headquarters, the BoT meeting was relocated to the YarAdua Centre in Abuja’s Central Business District.
“The Meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) Meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier scheduled to hold by 10am at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja has been moved to YarAdua Centre, Central Business District, Abuja,” the PDP announced via its official handle on X (formerly Twitter).
The party strongly condemned the police action, describing it as harassment and a clear attempt to intimidate its leaders. Armed officers reportedly barred BoT members, including Maina Chiroma, from entering the party premises.
A former National Secretary of the PDP, Umar Tsauri, said that police officers claimed they were acting on an “order from above.”
The blocked BoT members, expressing frustration over the development, eventually dispersed from the area.
The tension comes amid heightened anticipation surrounding the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, also scheduled for Monday.
