A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has lost a wager after vowing to resign from politics if any evidence emerges of him in the past criticising the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.
Ulasi had during a recent interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show while wooing Obi to join the PDP, pushed back on the claim by his interviewer, Rufai Oseni, that he was one of the critics of the former Anambra Governor.
Ulasi denied the charge, vowing to even resign from politics if contrary evidence was presented.
“I have never spoken against Peter Obi, and I stand by that. Show me any evidence from my time as PDP chairman or beyond, and I will leave politics entirely,” Ulasi today Rufai Oseni.
Netizens, however, went to the archives to dig up old videos showing Ulasi’s past criticisms of Obi, including accusing the former governor of dividing Anambra people along religious lines, stating that Obi’s administration created divisions between Catholics, Anglicans, and Pentecostals. He also claimed that Obi left Akwa, the state capital as a glorified village after eight years as governor.
On X, Ulasi has faced backlash from Nigerians over the claim against Obi which he now seeks to deny.
On a post on X, Rufai Oseni who cornered Ulasi to make the wager, said: “You can see why they all run away from Rufai’s scrutiny because of empirical facts. Chief Ulasi says he will resign from politics if we could show a video of his criticism of Peter Obi’s government in Anambra. I guess it’s time for him to do as he said. This attempt to make Obi come to PDP is an attempt to destroy him. If Obi falls for it it’s over for him politically!”
