Nigerians have faulted the reported summon of Peter Obi by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the Premium Times series titled Pandora Papers.

The Premium Times’ Pandora Papers alleges that Peter Obi owns businesses abroad which he didn’t declare while he was governor of Anambra State. The governor denied the charge, explaining that the businesses were family holdings which the law didn’t mandate him to declare.

But the EFCC has acted on the newspaper allegation by summoning Peter Obi to answer questions about the said businesses, according several newspaper reports.

The reports said the EFCC communicated the invitation to Peter Obi during the week and he has been asked to report at the agency’s Abuja headquarters on October 27 to face investigators.

Nigerians are not impressed by the invitation the EFCC extended to Peter Obi, alleging that it is a hatchet job to scuttle the chances of the politician of becoming Nigeria’s president in 2023.

@MolliesCreates told the EFCC: “Do not tamper with this one, you’ll divide the country very fast.”

@thereslmofasa said: “Looking forward to a government that will disband this EFCC agency that will be a huge step in the right direction. EFCC is now a tool used by the government to terrorize opponents and Youths standing up and speaking out against Buhari.”

@ifesinachiii also said: “These petitions against Tinubu were never attended to but oh well. You people should try and televise the questioning shaa. So that everyone can learn from the excellent lecture Peter Obi is going to deliver to you and to Nigerians.”

@MaximumObinna added: “The gloves on Nigeria’s unity are coming off so fast you can’t catch your breath! A particular group pencilled for perpetual humiliation. How long do they think this will last? How difficult is it to employ justice & equity as a tool for nations building?”

@Suleima41681020 also added: “They are trying to muzzle the opposition. Why haven’t they invited the likes of Akpabio on NDDC frauds,Amaechi on inflated railway costs and all the allegations levelled against him by the Rivers state Government.”
