Oyo school kidnappers use principal in new video to deny ₦1 billion, sharia law ransom demand
The abducted principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle, Rachael Alamu, has denied viral reports claiming that the Oyo school abductors demanded a ₦1 billion ransom and called for the imposition of Sharia law in Nigeria.
In a video released by the kidnappers, Alamu said information circulating in some media reports and on social media was inaccurate.
“Please, I have come to make some clarification. Today makes it 24 days that we have been in this place. Some media outlets are complicating the issue by stating that the people who abducted us requested ₦1 billion ransom and demanded Sharia law across the country. These claims are not true,” she said.
Reports of the ₦1 billion demand and Sharia law claim surfaced after Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker Edward Adebo Ogundoyin rejected negotiations with the kidnappers. Ogundoyin said they were asking for weapons, money, and “concession of the laws of the land.” Many interpreted “concession of laws” to mean the imposition of Sharia law across Oyo State.
