Otti also told the family of the late businessman and his community that justice will be served and there will be no cover-up

Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has assured citizens of his state that police to fish out and prosecute the officers involved in the unfortunate death of an Abia businessman, Emmanuel Okocha.
Prior to this, Abia State Police Command had announced that they have commenced investigation into the death which occurred in Aba, the business hub of the state.
The Spokesperson for the command, ASP Maureen Chinaka in a statement made available to journalists, explained that the incident involved one Emmanuel Okocha, a businessman and native of Abiriba in the state.
According to her, Okocha’s death resulted from his shooting along Aba-Owerri road by a Police Corporal named Obagi Njok attached to Abayi Police Division under Abia State Police Command.
She further said the policeman has been apprehended, adding that necessary disciplinary procedures have been initiated and that he will be subjected to appropriate administrative and legal consequences.

Speaking on the incident, Otti directed the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kene Onwuemelie, to ensure that the officers involved are duly investigated and prosecuted if found culpable.
In a press statement issued by Otti’s Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, the governor stated that preliminary information from the police showed that one of the officers involved is already in custody and would be made to go through the disciplinary process of the Force and eventually charged to court if found culpable.
He went on to console the family of the victim, while also commending the people of Abiriba and Aba communities for heeding his appeal not to take the laws into their own hands.
He also assured the family of the deceased and his community that justice will be served.
The statement read: “The State Government wishes to assure the family and the Abiriba and Aba communities that there will be no cover-up in this matter.”
