The Ondo state Council of Obas has called on the Federal Government not to renew the licence of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for poor service delivery.
They lamented that the company has turned deaf ear to several appeals made to it to distribute pre-paid metres to residents of the state.
The traditional rulers in a statement issued at their monthly meeting in Akure and signed by the Council’s Chairman, the Olukare of Ikare-Akoko, Oba Akadiri Momoh passed vote of no confidence on the company.
The monarchs said years of inefficiency and erratic power supply by BEDC to the people of Ondo north and Ondo central senatorial districts and total blackout in Ondo south district had negatively affected social, cultural and economic activities in the state.
“We are calling on the federal government to reject licence renewal bid of BEDC because the company had failed to provide pre-paid metres instead embarking on arbitrary over billing of customers or refused to replace ageing electricity equipment and transformers across the state”, the Ondo state Council of Obas pleaded.
“BEDC had in the last four years put majority of communities in northern and southern parts of Ondo state in perpetual blackout and continue to make unrealistic demands from the people”, they added.
