Ondo HMB employs 135 medical laboratory personnel in five months

The Ondo State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state with the employment of 135 medical laboratory personnel by the State Hospitals Management Board (HMB) within five months.
The fresh recruitment, comprising 65 medical laboratory scientists and 70 medical laboratory technicians, is part of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the health sector, address manpower shortages and create employment opportunities for young professionals.
According to the HMB, 25 intern medical laboratory scientists were engaged in March and April 2026, while another 20 interns were employed in July. In addition, 20 medical laboratory scientists and 70 medical laboratory technicians were recruited in the latest exercise.
The new personnel are expected to be deployed to laboratories in various general hospitals and state specialist hospitals across Ondo State, where their expertise would help improve diagnostic services and support effective patient care.
The development is coming against the backdrop of the administration’s commitment to revitalising the state’s healthcare system through improved manpower, infrastructure and service delivery.
The HMB said the latest recruitment would not only strengthen the capacity of government hospitals to provide timely and reliable laboratory services but also contribute to reducing youth unemployment by creating opportunities for qualified health professionals.
The Acting Chairman of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. O.N. Akeredolu, expressed appreciation to Governor Aiyedatiwa for what he described as his sustained commitment to improving the state’s health sector.
Akeredolu also acknowledged the contributions of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, and Dr. Victor Ategbole to the development of healthcare services in the state.
He said the board remained committed to supporting the administration’s vision of building a more efficient and responsive healthcare system that would meet the needs of residents.
The acting chairman, however, charged the newly employed and existing health personnel to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government by demonstrating professionalism, diligence and dedication to duty.
He warned that the board would not tolerate indiscipline, absenteeism or other acts capable of undermining effective healthcare delivery in the state.
The latest recruitment, according to the board, underscores the administration’s determination to combine healthcare reforms with employment generation while ensuring that residents have improved access to essential diagnostic and medical services.
