Oche emerges Benue ALGON treasurer, pledges transparency, accountability

The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Engr. Sunny Oche, has emerged the substantive Treasurer of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State chapter.
Oche was elected alongside other new members of the association’s leadership during an emergency meeting held on Thursday, August 14, 2026, at ALGON House, Makurdi.
His emergence followed the resignation of the former Chairman, Mr. Vitalis Terhile Neji, and the Treasurer, Mr. Adole Gabriel Adole.
At the election, Mr. Justine Shaku was elected as the new ALGON Chairman, while the Chairman of Konshisha Local Government Council, Hon. Moses Terfa, emerged as Welfare Officer, filling the vacancy created by the elevation of the former occupant to the chairmanship position.
The emergency meeting was presided over by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Ambassador Melvin James Ejeh, Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council.
Ejeh said the resignations of the former officers had been formally accepted, while commending them for their contributions to the association.
He added that the elections were conducted freely, fairly and transparently, without interference, intimidation or coercion, directing the newly elected officers to assume duty immediately.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Shaku, described his election as a call to duty, pledging to build an administration anchored on fairness, transparency and teamwork.
Shaku also promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear on the association while expressing his support for the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia and soliciting the cooperation of the immediate past leadership.
Reacting to Oche’s emergence, the Ado Descendants Union in Lagos State congratulated him, describing his election as recognition of his leadership qualities, accountability, dedication and commitment to teamwork in the administration of Ado Local Government.
In a statement signed by its National Convener, Barrister Agada Joshua, the group urged Oche to sustain the commitment and efforts he had demonstrated in complementing the Alia administration’s drive to deliver democratic dividends to the people.
The union noted that Oche’s new position would provide him with a broader platform to contribute to the effective coordination and strengthening of grassroots administration across Benue State.
Speaking on his election, Oche expressed appreciation to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him, promising to discharge his responsibilities with transparency, accountability and integrity.
He assured the new ALGON leadership and fellow council chairmen of his readiness to work harmoniously with them to advance the interests of local governments and improve service delivery to the people.
Oche’s new position is expected to place him at the centre of efforts to strengthen collaboration among the 23 local government councils and enhance grassroots governance in the state.
