It assured residents that there is no cause for panic as the circulation of the leaked security memo was suggesting a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, in a statement issued in Akure, the state capital said the leaked document, an internal communication between the State Security Services (SSS) and the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure was part of routine intelligence sharing among security agencies, not an indication of imminent danger.

According to Ajanaku, such intelligence exchanges are a standard part of security coordination designed to pre-empt threats and strengthen preventive measures.

“The leaked memo is one of several intelligence briefs routinely circulated among security agencies and the government. These reports help to heighten vigilance and guide proactive responses. The public can be assured that these signals are being properly acted upon,” the statement read in part.

He added that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has been in constant communication with heads of security agencies to ensure tight surveillance, especially around border communities, emphasizing that Ondo State remains one of the most secure states in Nigeria.

Ajanaku urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security operatives by reporting any suspicious movement or activity in their areas.

“Government wishes to reassure all citizens that there is no need for panic. Every necessary measure is being taken to keep Ondo State safe. We only ask that the public stay alert, avoid spreading unverified information, and assist security agents with timely intelligence,” he said.

He cautioned against sensationalizing the leaked memo, noting that public panic could undermine ongoing security efforts.

As part of broader security reinforcement, the government is working with military and intelligence units to strengthen surveillance infrastructure and ensure that Ondo continues to enjoy its reputation as one of the safest states in the federation.
