Ondo First Lady, Seun Aiyedatiwa, pledges continuous support for women’s football development

The wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs. Seun Aiyedatiwa, has promised that her office would continue to partner with the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) to ensure that the First Lady Pre-Season Tournament for Women Football Teams not only becomes an annual event but also grows in scope and impact.
Mrs. Aiyedatiwa made the pledge over the weekend at the grand finale of the competition, held at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
The tournament, which kicked off on November 2 and concluded on November 8, 2025, brought together top women’s football clubs from across the country in a spirited display of skill and teamwork.
Reaffirming her commitment to promoting female participation in sports, Mrs. Aiyedatiwa expressed her readiness to help propel women players from Ondo State and Nigeria at large to international stardom.
She described the tournament as “a celebration of talent, passion, discipline, and the unyielding spirit of youth, particularly women.”
Speaking, the Chairman of ODSFA, Mr. Divine Ogbonnaya, expressed appreciation to Mrs. Aiyedatiwa for her initiative and encouragement, describing the maiden edition of the tournament as a success characterized by fair officiating and competitive spirit.
Also, the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Hon. Biyi Poroye, lauded the performance of Sunshine Queens FC, expressing optimism that the team would make a strong impression in the coming Nigeria Women Football League season.
In the keenly contested final match, Sunshine Queens FC of Akure defeated Fortress Ladies of Benin by one goal to nil, clinching the maiden trophy of the First Lady’s Pre-Season Tournament.
