The Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene in Ondo State, Honourable Ayodele Akande, has been appointed Grand Patron of the Akoko and District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The honour was conferred on Friday at the 6th Investiture Ceremony of Pastor (Mrs.) Adebolanle A. Debo-Ajagunna as Chairman of the district, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Hall of Adekunle Ajasin University.
Akande’s appointment, according to organisers, is in recognition of his distinguished career as a chartered accountant and his notable contributions to public service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the commissioner congratulated the newly inaugurated executive members of the district, led by Debo-Ajagunna, urging them to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in the accounting profession.
He charged the leadership to deepen excellence and advance the objectives of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria within the district.
Earlier during the event, Hon.Akande who was the pioneer Chairman of the Akoko District and Society officially delivered the address of the 62nd National President and Chairman of Council of ICAN, Hajiya Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime who harped on the beauty of the seamless transfer of leadership emphasizing on how this has helped to strengthen the governance structure and legacy service that defines ICAN.
The guest lecturer at the event, Mr Akintunde Omomofe, FCA whose lecture centered on strategies Accountants must adopt to cope with the challenges that new technological innovations like Ai are making the Accounting profession redundant in the near future.
Omomofe also emphatically stated that a global ranking currently ranked the Accounting profession as the number 30 profession that will face extinction by 2030.
He encouraged any Accountant who still wants to be professionally relevant to upgrade their technological skill by learning the Ai and other new innovations.
The event attracted prominent personalities, including the Chairman of the Occasion and Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative, Pastor Bola Ademuwagun; the Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Professor Olugbenga Ige; and the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti.
Captains of industry, distinguished chartered accountants, public office holders, and other notable guests from within and outside Ondo State also graced the occasion.
