One of President Bola Tinubu’s Media Aides, Bayo Onanuga, has aimed a dig at former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, after his alleged expulsion from the Social Democratic Party, (SDP).
This followed an earlier report by TheNiche that SDP expelled El-Rufai and imposed a 30-year ban on him.
Speaking on Monday in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Amb. Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, SDP said its National Working Committee’s decision was in line with the party’s constitution, ideology, manifesto, principles, and practices.
It also added that the action was in consonance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act pertaining to the exclusive right of a political party to determine its membership.
“El-Rufai is hereby banished and banned from applying for membership, identifying with the name, insignia, logo, symbol, mark, or any activities, organs, agencies, and institutions of the SDP or donating to, supporting, contributing to, or participating in any affairs of the SDP for a period of 30 years effective from today.” the statement read.
Reacting to the development, Onanuga in a post on his X handle wrote: “Internally Displaced Again!”
El-Rufai joined the SDP earlier in the year after quiting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He is also a key member of the opposition coalition which recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as its platform ahead of the 2027 election.
