Another Nigerian athlete, Folashade Oluwafemiayo has cliched another gold medal in the Women’s Heavyweight Para Powerlifting event of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
She produced a stunning performance to set a new world record , lifting 175kg to amass a total of 134.8 points.
Oluwafemiayo was not the only one who did Nigeria proud in the event; her compatriot, Rita Ferdinand, also lifted 158kg to secure the silver medal.

Remarkably, Ferdinand also surpassed the previous world record, capping a breathtaking clean sweep of the top two positions by the West African nation.
Australia’s Hani Watson claimed the bronze medal with 111.5kg.
The feat marks Nigeria’s second one-two finish of the day in para powerlifting. Esther Nworgu, and Esther Oyema had earlier claimed gold and silver in the Women’s Para Powerlifting Lightweight event.
Prior to these developments, Roland Ezuruike, had won Team Nigeria’s first medal of the opening day, clinching a silver medal in the men’s lightweight category.
