The Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Niyi Ijalaye on Monday slumped and died in Abuja after a meeting at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters.
The meeting presided over by INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, focused on two off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as the seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.
Speaking on the development, a source within Ogun INEC, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the death of the Ondo-born Resident Electoral Commissioner, saying he had just returned to his hotel room after the meeting when the incident occurred.

He added that deceased, who dressed in a blue-striped kaftan and a red cap, actively participated in all discussions and was in good spirit during and after the meeting.

INEC is yet to issue a formal statement on the reported demise of the REC.
