Former Anambra State Governor and chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for his role in Galatasaray’s Turkish Süper Lig title win.
He congratulated the 28-year-old forward on Monday in a post shared on X, after Galatasaray defeated Antalyaspor 4-2 on Saturday to seal the championship.
During the encounter, Osimhen delivered yet another brilliant performance, scoring twice in the 66th and 88th minutes.
Reacting to the feat, Obi described the Nigerian international as a “proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage”.
He added that Osimhen brought honour to Nigeria through his achievements and conduct, while noting that the country is blessed with countless talents like him.
He, however, argued that the transformation of sport through the right leadership, support, and environment will help athletes to rise, excel, and bring glory to the nation.
Speaking via his verified handle, Obi wrote: “Your resilience, discipline, and talent continue to inspire millions of young Nigerians to believe in the power of hard work, dedication, and excellence.
“You have remained a proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage, bringing honour to our nation through your achievements and conduct. Nigerians are immensely proud of you and your continued success.
“I have often spoken about the transformative power of sports and the immense opportunities it offers to young people. This is why the persistent neglect of the sector in our country is deeply regrettable.
“I reiterate that a new Nigeria, where all sectors develop simultaneously for the balanced growth and health of the nation, is POssible.”
