NUT confers humanitarian award on Gara Gombe

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Education and Human Development has honoured Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe with achievers Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of education, youth empowerment in Gombe State.

At the presentation NUT noted Gombe’s impactful initiatives ranging from academic competitions, student sponsorship, teacher support programmes, ICT and vocational training, to sports development and infrastructure improvement have significantly transformed lives and strengthened the educational landscape of our society.

NUT affirmed that, “This award is proudly presented in celebration of World Teachers’ Day, in appreciation of Gara Gombe’s dedication to education and national development.”

He was also extolled for unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds, empowering educators, and promoting excellence which continues to inspire hope and progress across communities.

The Chairman and CEO of Green White Green Sports Centre was also acknowledged over his key contributions to Inter-Primary School Spelling Bee Competitions.

According to the group, Gara Gombe organizes inter-primary school spelling bee competitions across Gombe State, improving literacy levels, boosting confidence, and encouraging academic excellence among pupils.

He introduced the Dr. Gazali Mathematics Competition in 2019 for secondary schools, aimed at strengthening students’ interest and performance in mathematics and enhancing their analytical skills.

During the Hashidu administration, he sponsored computer literacy competitions aimed at improving digital skills among students and promoting early exposure to ICT education in Gombe State.

He organized athletics competitions for primary schools, where talented students were identified and supported with foodstuffs, school uniforms, and sponsorship of their school fees.

He established an athletics academy to train outstanding young athletes discovered during competitions, producing medal winners at national competitions such as the National Youth Games in Asaba and MTN Athletics Competitions in Jos.

He organized inter-secondary school athletics competitions in 2025, where students were camped and fed for one week, attracting participation from within and outside the state.

Gara Gombe facilitated training programmes for primary and secondary school games masters, inviting experts from outside the state to improve sports education delivery.

He organized an essay writing competition for indigenous students of Gombe State in 2023, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and academic excellence.

Through his Foundation, He continuously sponsored students from primary to tertiary levels, with many graduates and others still benefiting, reducing financial barriers and transforming lives.

He sponsored the centenary celebration of Hassan Central Primary School in 2026, including prayers, lectures, classroom adoption, recognition of former head teachers, and sports activities.

Hon. Gombe jointly sponsored training in solar panel design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi in 2023 in partnership with the Gombe State Government.

He sponsored Saifullah Ibrahim Waziri Sulaiman Ibrahim Jungudo and other Gombe State indigenes to attend leadership and diplomatic training in 2017 in Abuja and also supported project management training at the Institute of Business Diplomacy and Financial Management.

He facilitated the construction of 19 toilets and renovation of 15 others at Government Day Primary and Secondary School, Muazu Bolari, improving learning conditions and sanitation in 2025.

He supported the participation of 9 including Affan Buba Abuya Musa Abba Musa Babangida Hammani and other Gombe State indigenes in an international climate change programme held in South Africa.

He sponsored a capacity building training workshop for 10 indigenes of Gombe State including Muhsin Jibo Maigoro Abdulazeez Sani Labaran Aliyu Danladi  and others in Morocco, enhancing leadership and professional skills.

He sponsored 9 coaches including Ishaya Ibrahim Saady Ahmed Safari, Abubakar Magaji Stopper and others from Gombe State to undergo CAF D Coaching certification, strengthening grassroots football development.


Through Gombe Grassroots Movement, he has captured about 500 retired teachers under a welfare support programme recognizing their service to education.

He also contributed the sum of 500,000 Naira cash to NUT for the success of the programme

Through these numerous initiatives, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara has demonstrated exceptional commitment to education, youth empowerment, sports development, ICT advancement, and community growth in Gombe State.

His efforts according to NUT continues to create opportunities, inspire excellence, and build a stronger future for the people of the state.

His contributions stand as a testament to visionary leadership and dedication to human capital development.
