Niger State government has commended the efforts of nurses, midwives and other health workers in the pursuit of good health for the populace.
The governor, Alhaji Abubakar San Bello, through the Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel Berje, made the commendation, while marking the World Health Day with focus on Nurses and Midwives.
The governor also acknowledged the huge deficit in the numbers of nurses and midwives globally.
He attributed the deficit to the huge burden and strain of the demand for good health placed on the capabilities of the nurses, which he said, “push them to work beyond capacity.”
He however disclosed that the state government was committed to reducing the deficit by providing more qualified nurses and midwives besides evolving more strategies for training and retraining of health workers generally.
With the menace of the COVID-19, the governor pointed out that the frontline medical health workers risk their lives in attending to cases and impeding further spread, though no case has been recorded in Niger State.
The governor however appealed for the cooperation of citizens to Stay Safe and Alive and observe social distancing to enable the government witness more celebrations.
It would be recalled that the state government has set up isolation centres to address any issue that could arise.
