Niger governor appeals for religious tolerance, peaceful co-existence

Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello, has called on adherents of the Islamic faith to be tolerant to non-Muslims and use religion as a tool to promote peaceful co-existence among Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities.

Bello said that illfeelings among tribes and religious groups in Nigeria was due to ignorance of the heterogeneity of the country, which he said leads to disrespect for one another in making some unguarded statements without knowing the devastating effects of such comments.

Governor Bello pointed out that hate speeches among Nigerians were becoming worrisome and at the same time threatening peaceful co-existence.

Bello made the declaration during the commissioning/ opening of a Mosque built by a prominent son of the state, Dr. Suleiman Bala, at Tunga-Malam, Paiko in Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
