Trinidadian rapper, singer, and songwriter Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, better known as Nicki Minaj, has caused a buzz online following her decision to follow Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi on the popular social media platform X.
She made the move shortly after reposting a statement shared by the former Anambra State governor on Wednesday, in which he condemned the reported killings and abductions in Niger State.
Obi also described the situation as a systematic devaluation of human life and called for intelligence-led action against the criminal networks responsible for attacks and abductions across the country.

A quick check on the ‘Moment 4 Life’ hitmaker’s X page later revealed that she is now following Obi after sharing his post on the Niger State saga.
Her repost drew reactions from social media users in Nigeria and the diaspora, with many praising the rapper for amplifying concerns over the security situation and highlighting calls for justice and protection for affected communities.
However, a few others warned Nicki Minaj against getting involved in the murky waters of Nigerian politics.
