Nigeria’s male senior football team, Super Eagles will be involved in a double-header World cup qualifying encounters against Les Fauves of Central African Republic (CAR) between October 7-10, 2021.
The first leg of the qualifier will take place at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos on Friday, October 7th , while the return Leg will be played in Douala, Cameroon, the adopted home of CAR on Sunday, October 10th.
Super Eagles new comer, Calvin Bassey who plays as a defender for Glasgow Rangers and 2 of his Scottish club teammates Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun were among the early birds in the Eagles Eko Hotel camp.
They were joined by 13 other players, William Troost-Ekong, Taiwo Awoniyi, Paul Onuachu, Ejuke Chidera, Daniel Akpeyi, Samuel Kalu, Kevin Akpoguma, Jamilu Collins, Innocent Bonke, Chidozie Awaziem, Frank Onyeka, Ola Aina and the team captain, Ahmed Musa.
The remaining 7 players to complete the list of 23 players invited by Coach Gernot Rohr are Italian based Victor Osimhen, Dutch based kepper, Maduka Okoye, Kelechi Iheanacho,Simon Moses, Shehu Abdullahi, Kenneth Omeruo and goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho. Wilfred Ndidi missed out due to injury.
Nigeria leads the group with 6 points, which it got from defeating Liberia 2-0 in Lagos and beating Cape Verde 2-1 at home. In contrast, CAR is bottom of the group with 1 point having drawn one game and lost another against same opponents
