NDLEA re-arraigns Ghanaian over trafficking of 2.02kg Metaphetamine drug

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday re-arraigned a 36 years old Ghanaian, Paul Gyan before a Federal High Court Lagos, Nigeria on three counts charge bordering on drug trafficking. 

Gyan was first arraigned before Justice Babs Kuewumi in 2018, before the judge was transferred to the Ado-Ekiti division of the court and the case was assigned to another judge.

At his first arraignment before Justice Kuewumi, he had pleaded not guilty but was not admitted to bail.

On Thursday, the defendant was re-arraigned before a new judge, Justice Maureen Onyetenu. He again pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After his plea of not guilty, Meanwhile, Justice Onyetenu fixed May 13, and 14 for trial.

According to the charge signed by the prosecutor Mrs Juliana Imaobong, the defendant was alleged to have committed the offence on February 25, 2018.

The prosecution submitted that the defendant was arrested on the said date, at the departure hall of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, during the outward clearance of Ethiopian Airline passengers, at the departure hall of the Airport.

According to the NDLEA, the defendant knowingly possessed 2.02kg of Metaphetamine, which he concealed inside 10 tins of Immaculate Tin Tomatoes, in the popular ghana-must-go bag, adding that the defendant allegedly defendant exported the narcotics to Indonesia.

The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 11(b), 11(d) and 14(b) of the NDLEA Act, Laws of the Federation 2004.
