In a bid to fashion out strategies aimed at advancing Nigeria’s digital economy, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has played host to the Board of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN).
The meeting focused on enhancing internet connectivity and promoting local content development to foster greater digital inclusion across the country.
Issues at the forum centered on strengthening Nigeria’s internet infrastructure through expanded broadband access and the development of local internet exchange points.
These efforts align with the NCC’s broader National Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020-2025, which targets minimum broadband speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural regions by 2025.
The NCC emphasized the role of digital transformation as a critical driver for economic recovery and innovation.
IXPN highlighted its achievements in upgrading network capacity and expanding internet exchange points, including plans to establish additional PoPs across Nigeria to improve regional connectivity and reduce latency.
This expansion is expected to lower internet costs, improve speeds, and promote local content hosting, thereby stimulating economic growth and digital inclusion.
The collaboration between NCC and IXPN underscores a shared commitment to bridging the digital divide through public-private partnerships, infrastructure development, and digital literacy initiatives.
