Navy Commodore Nesiama declares for AFN’s presidency, says ‘I’m experienced to lead better’

Former Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Technical Director retired Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama has declared his readiness for the federation’s top job, says “no going back”.
In his formal declaration on Monday, The World Athletics (WA) recognized International Technical Official (ITO) said, “This is a formal declaration, They worked against me the last time. Not this time again. They know that I will defeat Okowa in a straight election. They want to prevent me from doing that. I’m not going to accept. We need to break from the style that has not helped us all these while.”
Nesiama, as the AFN Technical Director whose tenure saw many athletes blossom in their career also said, “I’m going for the AFN Presidency. I’m experienced and have the pedigree to lead the federation to better administration and performance. No going back”
The days ahead will largely determine a lot of things as AFN Congress in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State has fixed the AFN Zonal Elections for May 14th – 15th and Presidential for May 31st 2025.
With Nesiama’s entry into the fray, the number of aspirants have grown to three, namely, the incumbent, Chief Tonobok Okowa and Mr.Ikpokpo a.k.a Malik.
Nesiama’s sudden announcement comes with great expectations among athletics stakeholders across the federation.
