Milo Africa Championship: Nigeria, Ghana seek cup brace

Nigeria and Ghana extended their football rivalry to the school boys tournament as representative of both countries crushed their respective opponents to reach the finals of the 3rd Milo Africa U-13 Championship played at the Campos Square Stadium yesterday.

 

The tournament is sponsored by Nestle PLC for the four countries with the first edition hosted by South Africa in 2010.

Nigeria, represented by St. Barnabas LGEA, Kwara State went behind on the 5th minute through a Feature Zulu strike and the lads from the Rainbow nation sustained their lone goal lead through the first half.

 

But the Nigerians returned for the second half exerting dominance over Team South Africa represented by Dariye Primary School, Shangaal. John Emmanuel opened scoring for Nigeria five minutes into the second half and was followed up on the 62nd minute by Ajao Afeez while Sadiq Suleiman and Mustapha Adams Agba’a completed the second half blitz with goals on the 72nd and 83rd minutes to win the match 4-1.

 

In the second game of the day, Ghana’s Zogbeli Block A Primary School outclassed their opponents from Donholm Primary School, Kenya in a one-sided game that ended 5-0 in Favour of the defending champions. A first half volley from the half way line by Ishaku Fatamu was the high point of the tournament as the player was voted Man-of-the-Match.

With the result, an epic finals reminiscent of the last edition between Ghana and Nigeria is set up and both countries will be seeking to set the record of the most wins in this 3rd edition of the tournament sponsored by Nestle Plc.
