Mikel Obi donned the jersey of Trabzonspor in the 2019/2020 season, playing 19 times without scoring a goal for the club.

Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi, better known as Mikel Obi, has told ace Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah that he will have to deliver consistently at his new club, Trabzonspor, to remain the fans’ favourite.
The former Super Eagles captain, who once played for the Turkish club, gave the advice to the former Liverpool forward recently during an interview with Turkish outlet Sabah.
Salah joined the Black Sea Storm as a free agent after his contract with the Reds was terminated at the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season.
He was greeted by thousands of Trabzonspor fans at the airport following the announcement of his transfer from the Premier League club.
Speaking on the move, Mikel Obi told Salah what to anticipate following his transfer to Papara Park, saying he will receive substantial backing from the club’s fervent supporters.
He, however, cautioned the 34-year-old forward that while the fans will ardently support him, he must consistently deliver outstanding performances to retain their backing.

Mikel went on to underscore the enthusiasm surrounding the club and described the remarkable welcome Salah received upon his arrival.
“Salah has his reasons for moving there; is it for football or financial incentives? If we consider finances, surely Saudi Arabia would be the better option,” Mikel remarked.
“Trabzonspor is an excellent club, and the people are passionate about football. It is a football-centric city.
“Trabzonspor is a place where, as soon as a transfer is made and announced, fans flock to the airport to welcome the player, regardless of who it is.
“However, this time was unique; thousands of people came out to greet Mo Salah, and it was absolutely astonishing.
“I believe the entire stadium was filled for his announcement. It was unbelievable. The club’s social media presence also surged dramatically.
“Knowing the football club, I am aware of the quality of the training facilities, the dressing rooms, and the showers; they may need to make adjustments for Mo Salah,” he added.
Mikel also cautioned Salah about the elevated expectations at the club, asserting that supporters can swiftly turn against players if their performances and results fall short of expectations.
“No disrespect to Trabzonspor; it is a fantastic football club with an incredible fan base, and the individuals who manage the club and the city are commendable.
“The people in the city will worship you if you’re playing well and winning games. But they turn on you quickly—they don’t care who you are or where you are from.”
