Ace Argentine striker Lionel Messi has said that Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal reminds him of his younger days as a professional footballer.

Messi shared these thoughts during a recent event where he discussed the future of football and expressed his endorsement of the young Spanish international.

According to Messi, the Barca forward undoubtedly stands out as the finest among the latest generation of footballers making a global impact.

Yamal has taken over Messi’s iconic No. 10 jersey at Barcelona and is widely regarded as a potential successor to the Argentine, with many expecting him to rise to become the best player in the world.

Expressing his admiration for the Spaniard, Messi said: “There is a new wave of footballers who are exceptionally talented and have many years ahead of them, but if I must select one based on age, his accomplishments thus far, and the potential he holds for the future, it is Lamine. Without a doubt, he is the best in my opinion,” as reported by Sport.

He added: “Among the new generation of players, I believe Lamine Yamal is the one who most closely resembles me when I first began.”

At just 18 years of age, Yamal secured second place behind Ousmane Dembélé at the most recent Ballon d’Or awards and is anticipated to be a strong contender for the top prize again this year.

The Barcelona star is poised to claim his third La Liga title this season with the club before heading to the World Cup with Spain.
