France captain, Kylian Mbappe, has expressed his support for his teammate, Ousmane Dembele, following criticism that greeted his performance during their World Cup opener against Senegal.
The Real Madrid star defended the under-fire Paris Saint-Germain forward while addressing journalists ahead of France’s second World Cup tie against Iraq on Monday.
According to him, Dembele, who recently lifted the French league title and the UEFA Champions League (UCL) trophy with PSG, has everyone’s confidence.
Mbappe also insisted that the 29-year-old was the best of the four players upfront in the first half of the 3-1 win over the West African side.

He went on to remind critics that the former Barcelona forward recently won the Ballon d’Or award.
Speaking during his press conference, he said: “Ousmane? I have watched the game back twice; in the first half, he was the best of the four in attack, the one who stood out the most.
“In the second half, Michael and I were decisive, but he also contributed. He drew in an opponent and left free space for the first goal.
“Ousmane is very calm, he is the Ballon d’Or winner, he has everyone’s confidence.”
