Man aged 72 arrested as police burst criminal armory, mount search for gang members

Man aged 72 arrested as police burst crime in a joint operation

A man aged 72 has been arrested by police in a raid on a criminal armory in Ikot Ekpene Council in Akwa Ibom that also led to the recovery of firearms.

Akwa Ibom Police Command spokesperson Timfon John disclosed in a statement that Monday Maurice Okoro was nabbed when officers raided his residence and recovered arms.

“On April 26, 2025 at approximately 0515hrs [on Saturday], a joint operation led by the operatives of the Command resulted in the arrest of one Monday Maurice Okoko, a 72-year-old male.

“A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence and premises led to the recovery of firearms from his armory,” the statement said.

Police confirmed investigation into the matter is ongoing as officers move to arrest other members of the gang.
