By Jeffrey Agbo

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has renamed The Polytechnic Ibadan after the late ex-governor Omololu Olunloyo.

Makinde announced this on Thursday at the commendation service held in Olunloyo’s honour at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.

The governor said the renaming was to honour Olunloyo for his service to the institution as the pioneer rector.

He added that Olunloyo contributed his quota to the development of the state during and after his short tenure as the governor.

Makinde described the deceased as a technocrat, a true leader, a patriotic citizen and a man with a deep sense of culture.

In his exhortation, a retired Methodist Archbishop of Ilesa, Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, charged Nigerians to strive towards living a holy life.

Ladigbolu also called on political leaders to use their respective offices to make positive impacts on society.

Olunloyo became governor of old Oyo State in October 1983. He was unseated alongside other democratically elected officials by the military coup of December 1983.

He died on April 6, 2025, a few days before his 90th birthday.
