French President Emmanuel Macron has applauded the peace deal reached by the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, saying the pact will enable the prompt reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

He hailed the agreement in a post shared on the US social media platform X, where he called for its rapid and complete implementation by all parties.

Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced in a post on X that a peace deal “has been REACHED” and that an official signing ceremony will be held on 19 June in Switzerland.

Confirming the agreement in his own statement on Sunday—as he marked his 80th birthday—US President Donald Trump said, “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete”.

Reacting to the development, Macron noted that the deal is expected to facilitate the unrestricted resumption of maritime traffic, which is crucial for regional stability and the global economy.

He added that the agreement will also pave the way for comprehensive talks in the service of peace and security for all in the Middle East.

The negotiations, the French leader underscored, must address concerns related to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programmes, as well as “its policy of regional destabilisation”.

”This is how we will be able to build a solid and lasting peace”, the President noted. “France is prepared to play its full part, alongside its partners.”

Macron also assured his country’s resolute support for Lebanon’s efforts to restore its sovereignty, safeguard stability and territorial integrity, and meet the needs of its population.
