Lufthansa German Airways plans to upgrade First Class, Business Class, and the new Premium Economy cabin on all Nigerian routes.

It has designated Lagos as the centre and regional headquarters of its African sales, station, administration, and marketing.

“Nigeria has always played a key role in Lufthansa’s intercontinental network and now we are creating a new organisation that will benefit from the country’s economic size and business prospects as a leading regional business hub” said Claus Becker, Managing Director Sub-Sahara Africa, who heads the new set up.

Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa and also has the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is located within six hours from all other Lufthansa Sub-Sahara markets, hence the country was chosen as African regional head office.

Choosing Lagos as the headquarters of sales organisation will secure existing jobs and create more employment opportunities for Nigeria, which has three Lufthansa destinations – Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

Lufthansa has been Germany’s national carrier since 1962 and is a pillar in the burgeoning economic relationship between Germany, Nigeria as well as businesses in both countries.

Becker was joined by Tamur Pour, Lufthansa’s Vice President Sales & Services (Middle East, Africa & Southeast Europe), to discuss the airline’s plans for the African continent, including new and revamped cabin of services on all flights from Nigeria as well as other key African gateways.

“Sub-Sahara Africa is one of the Lufthansa Group’s strongest markets, with around 150 weekly flights by Lufthansa, Swiss/Edelweiss and Brussels Airlines serving 30 destinations in 26 countries and we plan to continue expanding services across the continent,” he disclosed.

Lufthansa will commence service to Nairobi, Kenya in October with initial four-times weekly and Brussels Airlines will offer customers in Accra direct service to Brussels.

Operating from Frankfurt, one of Europe’s largest and most punctual hub, Lufthansa offers business and leisure travellers from Nigeria a global network this summer with over 200 destinations in 76 countries.
