The home side opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Joseph Gomez’s well-weighted cross was headed in by Diego Jota to put Liverpool 1-0 up.

Juraj Kucka’s low drive was saved by Liverpools’ goalkeeper shortly before the home side got the goal and Joao Pedro also missed the opportunity early in the second half to restore parity for Watford.

Roy Hodgson made a triple change, replacing Imran Louza, Joao Pedro, and Chucho Hernandez with Tom Cleverley, Joshua King, and Emmanuel Dennis in the 78th minute.

But The Reds ensured the three points when Fabinho scored from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to make it 2-0 after Juraj Kucka was judged to have brought down Diego Jota inside the box after a VAR review.

Liverpool has now won their 10th game in a row and are two points above Manchester City, who take on Burnley in just over half an hour.

Watford played well but remain third from the bottom, three points from safety, but they will go into games against teams around them with confidence going by what they offered during the game.
