Lagos to refund N223m to 2023 Hajj pilgrims, each to get N61k for inconvenience experienced
Muslims who went on the 2023 Hajj from Lagos are to get N223 million as a refund for services not rendered by the Saudi Arabian authorities during the pilgrimage.
Lagos State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board (LSMPWB) Secretary Saheed Onipede made the promise in a statement issued by the Board Public Affairs Officer, Taofeek Lawal, saying each of the 3,651 pilgrims/beneficiaries is entitled to N61,080.
The statement explained that the refund, which was facilitated by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), became necessary to assuage the inconvenience the pilgrims experienced during the Hajj.
“The beneficiaries who are still alive (I’m Alive pilgrims) are to supply an application letter, photocopies of the Data page of International Passport, Nigeria/Saudi Immigration stamped page (in-bound and out-bound), and Account details,” Onipede said.
“For the deceased pilgrims, their families are expected to produce the death certificate of the deceased pilgrim, particulars of the next of kin as indicated in the Hajj form, affidavit as well as Nigeria/Saudi Immigration stamped page (in-bound and out-bound).”
Onipede noted concerns and apprehension over the refund but stressed that the state is committed to ensuring that every beneficiary gets his or her due in a seamless and stress-free manner, because Lagos, as the Centre of Excellence, would not deny its pilgrims their rights and privileges in any way.
